About Gibraltar Lake
Since time immemorial indigenous Yup’ik and Dena’ina have maintained the pristine waters and lands of this area. The abundance of plants, fish and animals has made this land a culturally and nutrionally rich area for thousands of years.
Camp Gibraltar is located 300 miles southwest of Anchorage in the Alaska range. Historically Gibraltar Lake is known as Igyaraq, meaning the throat (river) that flows into Lake Iliamna.
Thousands of salmon flow into the headwaters during the late summer early fall months to return back to their homelands to spawn up at the headwaters of the lake. Spawning salmon attract a healthy population of Lake trout, migratory birds, and brown bears. The experience of viewing thousands of spawning red salmon flowing through the crystal clear waters of Gibralter is unreal and we cherish the exclusive opportunity it provides in experiencing nature so closely.
